Ummm @fr3nd, 午后 doesn’t have a obsolete kanji. 后 is a 6th grade JLPT 1 kanji kyōiku kanji. Not an obsolete kanji!
From @SonashikitakewaR11, to @fr3nd 🙂
SonashikitakewaR11 (uhhh, I should have said ”JLPT N1”, not “JLPT 1 kanji”).
SonashikitakewaR11 as I understand it, the tag not only means that the kanji itself is considered as "obsolete", but also that its usage can be considered as obsolete too. I think this is what's happening in this specific case.
無い, 無い, 無い，
There is no obsolete kanji in 午后, this is simply an obsolete kanji usage. Without a valid replacement for it in reference to 日本の天皇と皇后 it's not going anywhere.
fr3nd Ummm, ok? thanks!
