This dictionary has English Pronunciation for ひらがな is a valued feature.
If you compare with English-Chinese dict. and follow my instruction, will find the secret of word formation, such as safe vs. safeguard. This finding is more interesting than "Element Periodic Table".

safe is the result of safeguard, not in the reversed order.
    safeguard, protect vs. sanguine 血淋淋
It may be related to some of the names of rulers, coincidental or mystic...

    current 當前 vs. present 現在
current 當前 vs. present 現在 is an example that some Kanji lost reasonable connection with English.
當 not 当. Why? By formant...
This explanation is new and will meet resistance from laziness, etc. (Why should I go through that trouble?) An article (from Google search) on this comparison is not complete, or even missed. The author says present = moment, but "the present government" = moment ~ ? So do not trust a book or authority without checking.

Many translations are weak, such as 回折 for diffract may not be accurate as 衍射, 繞射 (Hanzi)...
    微分 differential is right

韓 (used for Korea) originated from "fence around 圍繞 a well", now the 韩-围 and 绕 distorted.

barely --辛うじて is not accurate as 赤裸裸地.
    "Definition of barely
    1 : in a meager manner : plainly
    and 2nd is: scarcely"
So there is a lot of room to improve.

How to find the key in "scant 乏しい Toboshī"?
From scant synonyms: ..... find a common trait in 2 letter combination pattern, which is clearly in a contrary with a pattern from antonyms --synonyms of sufficient 碌に Roku ni; by Hanzi Pinyin as well. This secret, expected by Descartes 200 years ago, is revealed in "Key of Word" (by Shu Bethune) finally.
    Applause!

Then you may compare with a look-alike word scant-->skin 皮 Kawa, in Pinyin pi, it will fit the pattern mentioned above.
It is easy, of course, I did not explain explicitly, I can lecture, demonstrate in a class, seminar for your fully understanding...
