There's been another post asking on certain tags already, but it focused only on a small set of tags. It got answered here in the forum, but this case makes a general issue obvious.
The tags are very useful (and helpful, too) imho. But while some are self-explanatory, others leave open, in what way they differ from each other.
In the latter case, these tags might be familiar to higher level experts. However, in some other place "JapanDict" uttered its wish to open access to a wider public interested in the Japanese language, which is impeded by such insider-terms .
Now, I suggest, to rework the tags explanation from the viewpoint of a "normal" language-learner. The explanation of all tags should give an answer to the unspoken question: "Why is it important or useful to know it belongs to that group of words?" "In what way does this information affect my way of using this word?" (for instance it may influence the conjugation of certain verbs etc.")
There is already the dropdown list for tag-explanation on top of the single word's entry. There is enough space, for at the moment every tag consumes only one line and leaves still empty space to the right border of the screen. A more detailed explanation, where necessary, would hardly need more than one additional line. And as some self-explanatory tags don't need more detailed explanation, this would not happen with every tag. I only focus on a way to enable users to gain full knowledge from the tag-system
at the moment my personal problem is to really understand (and not only guess) the difference of the tags "vs-i" and "vs-s" But other users may have issues with other tags. Considering tags in general, in places a trifle more elaborate explanation would be welcomed.
