This is the first time ever being on the website, so apologies if I am not posting this where I need to, or if this question seems silly and unanswerable. I was watching a show (MHA episode 124 if that helps, lol), trying to really listen to the words in japanese so I could improve my language skills. I thought I could hear the word clearly, but no matter where I look, I cannot find the word online. Does anyone know what this word might be, how its written, or if there is a word that sounds similar and has the same meaning?
The subtitles said, "He didn't steal it."
And the man on-screen said something that sounded like, "Ubawarinakatta."
I understand that "nakatta" is the "negative" part of the verb, so I would assume that the base word is something like, "ubawari" or "ubawaru" but I cannot find any actual word that comes close to this sound and definition. I thought that it would be simple, since I could clearly hear the sounds and the translation seemed to be straightforward, but it seems not. Does anyone know what I might have heard? I would appreciate ANY help, even if the help is just teaching me a better way to learn new words. Thank you all!
